About the Journal
Journal of English Language Education Praxis (JELE-Praxis) is a peer-reviewed journal published annually by the Department of Language Education, School of Education, Kathmandu University, Nepal. The Journal contributes to the knowledge-building process in English Language Education by providing a forum for scholarly discourse on the impact of English Language Education in indigenous South Asian societies. For this purpose, the Journal publishes original research and scholarly contributions of academic value that enhance our understanding of English Language Education and its impact on shaping our collective consciousness. JELE-Praxis is a forum to share knowledge, values and skills among scholarly communities. JELE-Praxis encourages scholars to bring indigenous perspectives on analysis and theoretical frameworks to promote this objective. We welcome scholarly contributions that enhance our understanding of issues like learning the English language and its impacts on indigenous knowledge systems, including the way of living, art, culture and collective consciousness of indigenous communities with an integrative perspective from local, national, regional and global contexts. We publish full-length research articles, opinion-based and review papers, reflective notes, and book reviews.
Scholars often debate the advantages and disadvantages of English language education in South Asia. Some see it as full of opportunities for young aspirants to see and understand the high-tech world of the West. On the other hand, some argue that this system of education homogenizes Western ideology, exterminating our indigenous knowledge system, displacing our linguistic and cultural diversity and attacking the very self-identity of our age-old traditions. In such a scenario, we need a balanced approach to English language education, preserving our linguistic and cultural knowledge systems and accessing the potential for human development in the West through English. We believe such an approach enables us to save ourselves from possible conflicts of ideologies and transform ourselves into a just and peaceful society. JELE-Praxis promotes critical discourse on all these aspects to build new theoretical and practical insights. The Journal encourages theorizing local phenomena and perspectives based on empirical data. This approach enables us to interpret our realities from a novel perspective.
JELE-Praxis invites scholarly papers from all authors, including research students. We expect your contribution to enrich the existing knowledge to understand this complex phenomenon better.
